The School Day
Classes are in session from 7:20 am until 2:20 pm.
Students are expected to be on time to their classes.

Excused School Absences/Tardies
An absence/tardy that does not fall into one of the excused absence/tardy categories is considered to be unexcused. According to School Board Rule, an excused school absence falls under one of the following: student illness, medical appointment, court/immigration appointments, death in the family, school sponsored event, observance of religious holiday, and/or an educational/enrichment activity as determined by the principal or the principal's designee. The Miami‐Dade County School Board has an established attendance policy which states, "a student accumulating ten (10) or more unexcused absences in an annual course or five (5) or more unexcused absences in a semester course is subject to the withholding of the final passing grades. Students whose grades are withheld will receive NC (no credit) on their report card."

Tardy To Class
If a student is in attendance in school, he/she will be considered tardy to class if he/she is not in his/her assigned room when the tardy bell rings. Students who are excessively tardy will be referred to the appropriate administrator. Students will be assigned to detention, work detail, SCSI, Saturday School, or outdoor suspension for excessive tardies and may jeopardize their academic grade if instructional time is missed.

Tardy To School
Students arriving at school after 7:20 am are expected to report to the office for a tardy pass. An official document such as court documents, healthcare providers note, etc. must be presented to the office upon arrival in order for the tardy to be considered "excused" as per School Board Rule. Repeated tardies may be considered a Group II Violation of the Code of Student Conduct and will result in referral to the Assistant Principal. Students are expected to take advantage of his/her educational opportunity by attending all classes punctually on a daily basis.

Tardy CHECK-IN Procedure(rev 09/23/2015)
All students that are tardy to school must proceed to the main office to check in.  All students must check-in utilizing the Self-Check-In Kiosk on the main office counter.  Students will be prompted to scan their student ID, to identify their current teacher at the time of check-in, and to specify whether the tardy is excused or unexcused.  A tardy can only be marked excused for the following reasons:

  • Personal illness – parent must escort the student to the office (after 5th occurrence, a doctor’s note will be required going forward).
  • Court appearance of the student – must provide official documentation
  • Medical appointment – must provide official documentation (appointments should be made after school when possible).
  • Student was involved in an approved school function
  • Other tardy with prior approval of the Principal

All tardies must be verified by the attendance clerk upon check-in.  Please note that transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the parent.  Therefore, tardiness due to heavy traffic will not be considered excused.  During inclement weather, tardies may be lifted for no more than 15 minutes (until 7:35 am) at the discretion of the principal or designee.
Tardy students will receive an electronic tardy pass to their school email account upon check-in.  Their teacher will also receive instant notification that the student has arrived and is en-route to class.

Progressive Discipline Plan (rev 09/23/2015)
All students will be afforded up to 5 unexcused tardies to school without penalty.  Thereafter, progressive discipline will be implemented to curtail the loss of instructional time due to unjustifiable tardies.
