academic grading | guidelines

Grades are EARNED, not GIVEN! All grades are based on a teacher’s professional judgment after careful consideration of all aspects of a student’s performance. All teachers will furnish a course syllabus during the first week of class with the grading criteria clearly defined. Teachers may opt to grade based on a 4-point grading scale or a corresponding 100 percentage point scale. For reference, please utilize the table below to identify grade values.

Note that the point values for academic grades are applicable only to the un-weighted grade point average (GPA). For weighted GPA's, additional bonus points are added based on the performance of the student and the academic level of the course. For all advanced placement (AP) and dual enrollment (DE) courses, students that earn a final grade of a "B" or an "A" will earn two (2) additional points to the original point value of the grade. For a final grade of a "C" only one (1) additional point is added to the original point value of the grade. For honors level courses, only one (1) additional point is added to the original point value of the grade if the student earns at least a "C" in the class. No additional points are added for a final grade of a "D" or an "F" in any course.
